Homemade Produce Wash
It has never been more important to wash your produce. It can be easy to forget that bacteria and pesticides often cover the surface of your fruit and veggies (even when you’re not in the midst of a pandemic). In recent years you may have even heard of food-borne illnesses occurring that resulted in hospitalizations. Listeriosis, salmonella, and E. coli, while not super common, are are definitely something you don’t want to mess around with.
When bringing home your produce you should immediately rinse and scrub (especially tough and textured produce like cantaloupe) in water. In addition here is an easy recipe for Homemade Produce Wash.
1 cup distilled water
1 cup distilled white vinegar
1 Tbsp baking soda
½ squeezed lemon
Spray the mixture on your produce, even if it is organic, to get rid of any possible bacteria and pesticides
Rinse with water
Pat the produce dry
And there you have it—an easy, safe, and toxin-free produce wash!
